Travel Feature:  Hocking Hills, Ohio

The morning view from the front door of the B&B we stayed at.
In Southwestern PA, many like to visit places like Cooks Forest. Living in SW Pennsylvania since 1986, I'm amazed that I had never once heard of Ohio's Hocking Hills until recently. After a great review, Kim and I decided to spend a weekend there.  The last leg of the drive was very rural with windy country roads.  We arrived at the Bed and Breakfast which was a photo destination in itself.  We settled in for a great dinner with our host.  In the morning, we eagerly hit the road to check out the sights.

Ash Cave. This must be seen to be believed.
The first formation we went to was Ash Cave.  It's really something you have to see in person due to it's enormity and grandeur.  I found it incredible that when you walk along the top of the cliff, there is no railing.  I'm sure it's because they want to keep it looking natural, but I got nervous as children ran along the path close to the edge.  I guess I'm getting old.  Then, off we went to Old Man's Cave.

Small water features and rock formations lie around every turn
There are great paths to walk both on top of and down in the small canyon, and there is something interesting around every bend.  You find little waterfalls, cliffs and huge overhangs, and light playing on the rocks, trees and roots.

We actually ran out of time before seeing the other places the area has to offer.  We will return there, and we have made it a mission to tell others about Hocking Hills.  There are cabins right at the State Park and the area has countless other cabins and campgrounds.  If you get a chance, I recommend going there.  I know we plan to return!
